en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 12, offshore drilling contractor Seadrill Limited disclosed that its ultra-deepwater drillship West Carina has secured an offshore drilling contract in Indonesia valued at approximately US$420 million, with a firm operating period of 880 days, expected to commence in the first half of 2027. The contract value includes drillship mobilization costs, excludes additional service revenue, and includes a priced extension option of up to 880 days. The client name and specific operating block have not yet been disclosed.

West Carina is a seventh-generation ultra-deepwater drillship capable of operating in water depths of up to approximately 3,600 meters, with a maximum designed drilling depth of approximately 11,400 meters. The vessel is equipped with a dual-activity system, DP3 dynamic positioning system, automated pipe-handling equipment, and high-pressure blowout preventers. These parameters represent the drillship's design capabilities; the specific drilling program will be determined in accordance with the contract's operational requirements.

Seadrill simultaneously secured two contract extensions for the drillship West Capella in Malaysian waters. The client first exercised a remaining priced option, adding 120 operating days and approximately US$41 million to the contract value, and subsequently exercised another previously unpriced 120-day option, adding approximately US$53 million. The vessel's operating schedule is thereby extended through February 2028.

In Angolan waters, Sonadrill Holding Ltd., a joint venture equally owned 50/50 by Seadrill and an affiliate of Sonangol E.P., secured a contract extension for the drillship Sonangol Libongos. The client exercised all remaining priced options, extending the contract term by approximately three years, with operations continuing through January 2030.

Seadrill's semi-submersible drilling rig Sevan Louisiana also secured a 25-day drilling contract from Kosmos in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, expected to commence in November 2026. The financial terms of the Angola and U.S. Gulf of Mexico contracts have not yet been disclosed.

The newly disclosed Indonesia contract and Malaysia extensions with disclosed values total approximately US$514 million. Seadrill also disclosed that more than 85% of its available drillship operating days for 2027 are already covered by contracts.
