en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 12, Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company disclosed that water treatment filter elements produced using polypropylene from Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc. (KPI) have entered the industrial application stage and are being used in the water treatment system of the Caspian Sea desalination plant in Mangystau Region.
The filter elements are produced by the Kazakh company AquaFilter and are primarily used in the first-stage mechanical filtration of the desalination plant's water treatment system, intercepting larger mechanical impurities in the water to ensure the stable operation of subsequent purification processes.
In the fall of 2025, AquaFilter completed production tests using the first batch of KPI polypropylene, confirming that the material meets the manufacturing process requirements for filter elements. In May 2026, the company began regular supply of the relevant products to the Caspian Sea desalination plant.
Currently, AquaFilter produces 10,000 to 30,000 filter elements per month, consuming approximately 20 tons of KPI polypropylene. The company currently manufactures 2 to 3 types of water treatment filter elements and plans to expand its product range to 8 types in the future.
KPI, located in the Atyrau Region of Kazakhstan, is the country's first large-scale integrated gas chemical complex, with a designed annual polypropylene production capacity of 500,000 tons.
