UK Harmony Energy battery storage project energized

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Skeeby battery storage project near Richmond in North Yorkshire, UK, has been energized. Developed by Harmony Energy, a European utility-scale battery energy storage system developer, the project has a capacity of 35 MW/70 MWh and utilizes Tesla Megapack technology. The project is now energized and ready to enter commercial operation, capable of releasing electricity to the grid during peak demand, sufficient to power approximately 120,000 homes for two hours.

The site will enhance the UK's clean energy supply capacity and support the transition of the power system toward a more reliable, flexible, and low-carbon direction. Battery storage plays a critical role in the UK's energy system, storing electricity during periods of low demand and releasing it during periods of high demand, helping to reduce curtailment of clean electricity, support grid stability, and lower long-term energy costs for consumers.

The energization of the Skeeby project is the first project to become operational since Harmony Energy received strategic investment from Alpiq, a Swiss energy services provider. Peter Kavanagh, CEO of Harmony Energy, stated that the investment provides additional support for the company to accelerate the delivery of storage projects in the UK and Europe, and the company will continue to advance its project pipeline with the same team, brand, and development expertise.

At the project site, Harmony Energy has simultaneously implemented biodiversity measures, including new vegetation and habitat improvements, and supports community initiatives such as Richmond Bike Park. The park is a newly built, free-to-use bike skills park expected to open by the end of 2026.
