Mumbai Metro Line 1 Launches WhatsApp Digital Pass
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Mumbai Metro One (MMO) has launched a fully digital metro pass, issued entirely via WhatsApp for passengers on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor, enabling instant purchase and use.

The service, driven by Reliance Infrastructure, allows passengers to initiate a conversation through the official WhatsApp channel, select trip or stored-value options, and after the ticket is generated, add it to Google Wallet or Apple Wallet for offline presentation and contactless validation at ticket gates. The stored-value option supports incremental top-ups, authorized trips require no paper tickets, and transaction records are fully digitized, reducing reliance on ticket counters, with payments completed within the chat flow.
The digital pass supports both multi-trip and stored-value ticket formats, eliminating the need to apply for and carry physical metro passes. Integration with Google Wallet and Apple Wallet enables the pass to function offline, and contactless validation at entry points helps ensure smooth passenger flow during peak hours. This model reduces handling of physical media while protecting passenger privacy by minimizing physical interaction, aligning with the broader digitalization of urban transit services. Operational control and customer support remain the responsibility of the operator and the driving entity.
The rollout covers the entire Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor, and the pass is available for immediate use. MMO will monitor adoption and manage updates through messaging channels and its backend systems. Passengers are advised to purchase via the official WhatsApp channel, ensure their mobile wallets are updated to the latest version, follow on-screen prompts to complete activation and balance top-ups before travel, or contact customer support through official channels for assistance.
