en.Wedoany.com Reported - Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), together with the General Consultant AEON consortium and the contractor HCC-KEC consortium, has completed the concreting of P814, the final pier of the ECV-03 package on Corridor 5 of Phase II, which is also the 513th pier of the package. Located on the Ullagaram to Elcot section with a total length of 11.3 kilometers, the completion of all pier works within the package has created conditions for the subsequent erection of U-girders and station construction.

Pier P814, standing 25 meters tall, is located beside Medavakkam-1 metro station. The entire package comprises 513 piers, supported by 2,351 pile foundations.

The package includes several highly challenging construction sections. Between Pier P879 near Medavakkam Koot Road and Pier P868 along Semmozhi Salai, the tallest cluster of piers in the package is concentrated, reaching heights close to 29 meters. The metro alignment requires an overpass above the existing Medavakkam flyover, where the elevated structure rises approximately 29 meters above ground level. The alignment also features a 57-meter-long steel girder span situated on a sharp curve with a radius of only 125 meters. The Medavakkam-1 and Medavakkam-2 stations are also located within this section, with station structures rising approximately 29 meters above the road.

Given the densely populated surroundings, busy market areas, and heavy traffic flow, the construction team had to carry out large-scale structural works near and above the existing flyover while maintaining traffic diversions. The project team accomplished this task through detailed planning, multi-party coordination, and systematic execution.

At the time of concreting completion, officials and representatives present to witness the event included CMRL Project Director Shri T. Archunan, CMRL Joint General Manager Shri R. Srinivasan, AEON consortium Team Leader Shri C. Murugamoorthy, AEON consortium Resident Engineer Shri G. Suresh Kannan, and HCC-KEC consortium Project Manager Shri Lalichan Antony.

With all piers completed, the construction focus has shifted to the remaining U-girder erection and station building works. The completion of the pier works provides the structural foundation for the next construction phase of this elevated corridor and its associated infrastructure.
