First Mining's Springpole Gold Resource Reaches 4.8 Million Ounces

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Cat Lake First Nation (CLFN) and Lac Seul First Nation (LSFN) have signed a definitive agreement with First Mining Gold (TSX: FF) to jointly develop the Springpole gold project in northwestern Ontario, sending First Mining's shares higher in early trading.

The agreement covers all phases of the project, from construction and operation through to closure. First Mining stated that the agreement text was drafted in a manner that respects the land, air, water, and culture, delivering key benefits to both First Nations. Company CEO Dan Wilton said the agreement reflects the tremendous work and dedication of the two First Nations in understanding the Springpole project and advancing mine development.

According to First Mining, the Springpole project is located approximately 140 kilometers north of Sioux Lookout and is one of the largest undeveloped gold projects in Ontario. The deposit hosts inferred mineral resources of 4.8 million ounces of gold and 28 million ounces of silver. On Thursday morning, First Mining's shares rose 2.13% on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The agreement was negotiated through the Anishinaabe-led impact assessment (ALIA) process and includes provisions allowing CLFN and LSFN to participate in environmental management and monitoring of the project. First Mining will also implement priority training and employment measures to generate economic benefits for the communities. LSFN Chief Clifford Bull stated that this milestone reflects years of hard work, collaboration, respect, and a willingness to share the rich resources within traditional territories in accordance with Anishinaabe laws and traditions.

Earlier, the parties signed a C$4 million agreement in June to build an all-weather road connecting Cat Lake to Sioux Lookout. First Mining said the road project further advances Springpole development, while the CLFN Chief called it a "significant socio-economic victory." CLFN Chief Russell Wesley noted that many difficult decisions were made during the agreement process, thanking community members for their full dedication to the land, culture, and way of life; the agreement will create meaningful opportunities for members and youth, strengthen the community's ability to shape its future, and protect its enduring relationship with the land, water, and all people who call this place home.
