ENGIE Chile Commissions Two Energy Storage Projects, Adding 251MW of Storage Capacity

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 28, ENGIE Chile officially commenced commercial operations for its two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, BESS Libélula and BESS Los Loros, which together add 251MW of storage capacity with a total investment of $283 million. Following their commissioning, ENGIE Chile's operational BESS capacity in Chile has increased to 663MW.

The PV & BESS Libélula project is located in Colina and Tiltil, approximately 40 kilometers north of Santiago, with a total investment of $320 million, of which $219 million is allocated to the BESS component. The energy storage system has a maximum total power output of 203MW and a storage capacity of 1034MWh, consisting of 208 lithium-ion battery containers with a discharge duration of 5 hours. The accompanying photovoltaic power plant has a maximum total power output of 140MW, with 245,560 photovoltaic modules installed. The plant has achieved 100% power delivery and is currently undergoing commercial operation procedures.

The Libélula project is equipped with a step-up substation and connects to the El Manzano substation via a 220kV transmission line approximately 16 kilometers long. The photovoltaic section also features 2,311 NX Horizon tracking systems.

BESS Los Loros is located at the Los Loros photovoltaic park in Tierra Amarilla, Atacama Region, with an investment of $64 million, a maximum total power output of 48MW, and a storage capacity of 275.23MWh. The project comprises 63 lithium iron phosphate battery containers and forms a PV+BESS system with the existing Los Loros photovoltaic plant.
