Perpetual Next's 220,000-Ton Bio-Methanol Study in UAE Expected to Complete by End of 2026
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Perpetual Next, a developer of renewable carbon and green methanol projects, has commissioned Kreston ME Consulting (KMEC) to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study on the development of a bio-methanol production facility and a regional commercial platform in the United Arab Emirates. This move is a key step in Perpetual Next's assessment of whether the UAE could serve as a potential deployment site for its integrated renewable carbon-to-bio-methanol platform.
The study will evaluate the commercial, regulatory, logistical, and financial foundations involved in establishing a bio-methanol production facility in the UAE. Abu Dhabi has been prioritized as a location for assessment due to its industrial infrastructure, port connectivity, and mature energy and chemical value chains, with the final site selection and development approach to be determined based on the study's findings.
The reference concept under evaluation is based on a production capacity of approximately 220,000 tons of bio-methanol per year, requiring the use of approximately 320,000 tons of imported bio-carbon produced from sustainable residues annually. The study will examine the following key development areas:
Regional and international bio-methanol demand and potential offtake routes; the UAE's regulatory, permitting, and legal frameworks; industrial sites, utilities, infrastructure, and port logistics; international bio-carbon feedstock supply and import logistics; indicative capital and operating economics; potential project financing and investment structures; key development risks and the path toward investment readiness.
The work will ultimately result in a comprehensive feasibility assessment and recommendations on appropriate next steps for Perpetual Next's development in the UAE.
Anthony Mayle, Head of Business Development at Perpetual Next, stated that the UAE is a highly attractive potential location within the company's international growth strategy, situated at the crossroads of major global shipping routes, with mature energy and industrial infrastructure and a commitment to low-carbon fuels, warranting a detailed evaluation. The commissioning of this study enables the company to move from a high-level opportunity assessment to a structured understanding of the commercial, regulatory, logistical, and financial conditions required for project development in the region, and will also lay the groundwork for subsequent discussions with potential industrial partners, investors, financial institutions, and other stakeholders.
The UAE concept is part of Perpetual Next's strategy to build an international network of renewable carbon and bio-methanol production assets, aiming to connect sustainable biomass resources with markets seeking scalable alternatives to fossil carbon. Bio-methanol can support the decarbonization of industries such as shipping and chemicals, where renewable carbon molecules remain essential, and the UAE, as an international logistics and energy hub, can serve both regional demand and export markets.
Kreston ME Consulting will conduct the study by combining local UAE market, regulatory, and infrastructure expertise with the international capabilities of the Kreston Global network, and will engage with relevant industrial zones, infrastructure providers, and market participants to validate key project assumptions. Govind Menon, Growth Strategist at the firm, stated that the focus of the work is to establish a clear evidence base across the project's commercial, regulatory, infrastructure, and financial dimensions, providing a structured basis for Perpetual Next to determine the most appropriate path forward.
The feasibility study is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026.
