Syria and Saudi Arabia Sign Four Transport and Logistics Cooperation Agreements
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 27, Syria and Saudi Arabia signed four agreements and memoranda of understanding in the fields of transport and logistics in Damascus, covering roads, railways, civil aviation, and postal services. Syrian Minister of Transport Yarub Badr and Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh Al-Jasser signed memoranda of understanding on road and railway cooperation respectively, under which the two sides will conduct technical studies, professional training, and exchange of technical expertise.

The scope of railway cooperation includes technical specifications, operational systems, safety standards, digitalization, signaling and communication systems, train operation management, and cooperation in railway-related industries; the road sector covers research on road networks and exchange of technical expertise. The two memoranda of understanding set a six-month coordination period to identify cooperation projects and implementation plans, with a validity of five years, renewable by mutual consent.
In the civil aviation sector, the Syrian Civil Aviation and Air Transport Authority and the Saudi side signed a bilateral air transport agreement. This agreement updates the aviation cooperation implementation arrangement signed by the two countries in 2007 and continues to adopt the open skies mechanism.
The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding on postal and logistics cooperation, signed by the Syrian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Saudi Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services, with cooperation entities including Syrian Post and Saudi Post (SPL), covering postal technology, logistics systems, exchange of personnel expertise, and the transport of international mail and small parcels.
During the talks, the Syrian communications sector also confirmed that the two sides are advancing the SilkLink digital infrastructure project. The project, built in cooperation between the Syrian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and stc, plans to deploy a backbone fiber-optic network within Syrian territory.
