Portugal's Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Pays €809 Million to Farmers and Fishermen in First Eight Months

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Portugal's Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has paid €809 million to farmers and fishermen, up 39% compared to the same period in 2025, covering both regular support measures and special measures. In August alone, approximately €71 million was paid out, reaching over 35,700 beneficiaries.

In a statement, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries said that, as of August 31, these funds are intended to strengthen the financial stability and predictability for farmers, producers, and fisheries operators. Of the payments made, €3 million was allocated to the distillation of wine by-products, and €13.3 million to vineyard restructuring and replanting.

Under the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy (PEPAC), €2.1 million was directed to the modernization of productive investments in agriculture, €3.8 million to young farmer settlement bonuses, and an additional €3.8 million to productive investments by young farmers. In the fisheries sector, €7 million was invested through the "Mar 2030" program to promote the sustainability and modernization of the industry. The Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) allocated €5.3 million to research and innovation, fisheries, and development hubs (polos de desenvolvimento).

Special support measures include €2.1 million in diesel subsidies, as well as €7.8 million to address the impacts caused by Storm "Christine."
