Track Laying in Full Swing on Second China-Mongolia Cross-Border Railway, Set for Completion by Year-End

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 1, the second cross-border railway between China and Mongolia—the Ganqimaodu–Gashuun Sukhait Railway—entered the track-laying phase.

The project simultaneously lays two track gauges for both countries, adopting a parallel scheme of 1,520 mm broad gauge and 1,435 mm standard gauge, with a total track-laying mileage of approximately 33.5 kilometers. Construction of the Ganqimaodu–Gashuun Sukhait Railway officially commenced in May 2025. To date, all substructure works including pile foundations, pile caps, and pier shafts have been completed. It is expected that all girder erection will be finished by October this year, and all track laying will be completed by the end of the year.

The Ganqimaodu–Gashuun Sukhait Railway is the second cross-border railway built by China and Mongolia in nearly 70 years, following the opening of the Erenhot–Zamyn-Uud Railway in 1956. The project departs from the Ganqimaodu port and enters through Mongolia's Gashuun Sukhait port, with plans to open to traffic in 2027.
