Kymeta Secures $20 Million U.S. Department of Defense Order for Satellite Communication Terminals

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 1, Kymeta received a $20 million order from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to supply over 100 Osprey u8 flat-panel satellite communication terminals, along with multi-orbit satellite connectivity services through its Kymeta Broadband (KBB) global network. For security reasons, the specific DoD procurement branch was not disclosed. Kymeta stated that the batch of over 100 terminals has already been delivered; with this order included, the cumulative value of terminals and connectivity services delivered to this DoD branch in 2026 has exceeded $30 million.

This order covers both terminal equipment and satellite connectivity services. The KBB service provides Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) connectivity for the Osprey u8, and the delivered terminals are capable of switching between networks employing Transmission Security (TRANSEC) mechanisms and those without TRANSEC. According to Kymeta's official product documentation, the Osprey u8 also supports GEO, LEO, and cellular network connectivity, allowing different communication links to be configured via the built-in modem, field-replaceable modem modules, and external modem ports.

The Osprey u8 is designed for defense and government mobile communications scenarios, integrating Assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (A-PNT) capabilities to operate in GNSS-denied environments, and is equipped with automatic satellite acquisition and tracking functions. Kymeta's combined offering for the U.S. Department of Defense integrates LEO, GEO, TRANSEC, and cellular connectivity into a single terminal solution.

Kymeta currently supplies multi-orbit flat-panel satellite communication equipment to multiple branches of the U.S. Department of Defense. In October 2025, the Osprey u8 was selected for the U.S. Army's Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) pilot to provide multi-orbit satellite communication capabilities; in April 2026, the company was awarded a contract by the Office of Naval Research to develop Ku/Ka dual-band satellite communication technology. This $20 million procurement falls under an order that has already entered the phase of volume equipment and network service delivery.
