Wedoany.com Report-Jun 20, A consortium of Voith and HeiTech Padu Berhad, a Malaysia-based technology company, has secured a contract to upgrade three hydropower stations owned by TNB Power Generation Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad. The project, part of the Life Extension Program, focuses on enhancing the performance and longevity of these facilities.
The modernization includes the Temengor hydropower station, equipped with four 100MW Francis turbines; the Bersia plant, with three 24MW vertical Kaplan turbines; and the Kenering station, featuring three 40MW Francis turbines. All stations are located along the Sungai Perak in northern Malaysia. The project also encompasses the Bersia Group Control Center, which manages the operation of the river cascade power stations.
Valued at multiple millions of euros, the contract covers the refurbishment of turbine-generator units, automation systems, and electrical and mechanical auxiliary systems. The upgrades aim to extend the operational life of the stations and increase the energy output of selected turbine-generator units. Voith highlighted that the Temengor station is expected to see a 15% increase in output capacity.
A TNB Power Generation Sdn. Bhd. spokesperson stated: “This modernization of our hydropower stations by Voith and HeiTech represent significant step towards ensuring a sustainable and reliable energy supply in Malaysia.” They added: “We look forward to this collaboration and the positive impact this project will have on our energy infrastructure, supporting TNB’s energy transition initiatives.”
