ONE Nuclear Plans Up to 1 GW Small Modular Reactor Project in Louisiana

en.Wedoany.com Reported - ONE Nuclear Energy LLC (ONE Nuclear) announced the launch of its Louisiana project portfolio, with a planned total installed capacity of 5 GW, covering dispatchable power generation, grid-scale battery energy storage, data center infrastructure, and an advanced nuclear energy development pathway. The portfolio includes the Cayman Project, the Amber Jack Project, and the Barracuda Project. Among them, the one directly related to nuclear power is the Amber Jack Project, which aims to build a multi-unit small modular reactor power station fleet with an installed capacity of up to 1 GW.

Richard Taylor, CEO of ONE Nuclear, stated that the Louisiana project portfolio is designed to meet the growing U.S. electricity demand in different but complementary ways. Among them, the Amber Jack Project will establish a prudently advanced pathway for advanced nuclear power development.

According to the current plan, the Amber Jack Project will be advanced as an independent, scalable advanced small modular reactor project. Its final installed capacity, reactor technology pathway, and plant configuration still need to be determined through technology selection, detailed engineering design, environmental assessment, transmission studies, commercial arrangements, financing, and the federal licensing process.

ONE Nuclear stated that after securing site control, the Amber Jack Project is conducting further technical and environmental assessments. Follow-up work includes land, geotechnical, and environmental site studies, cooling water and logistics condition assessments, transmission and grid interconnection analyses, vendor-neutral small modular reactor technology screening, and continued engagement with local, state, and community stakeholders and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

The company also emphasized that the work completed to date does not constitute NRC site approval, a reactor license, environmental authorization, or a final engineering decision. The nuclear capacity targets in the Louisiana project portfolio remain at the planning level and ultimately depend on conditions such as engineering design, grid interconnection agreements, utility commitments, licenses, customer contracts, financing commitments, and construction decisions.

ONE Nuclear plans to hold a public information meeting in October 2026, inviting residents, local officials, landowners, community organizations, and other stakeholders to attend, to introduce the planning and research processes for the Cayman, Amber Jack, and Barracuda projects, explain environmental, infrastructure, and licensing-related work, and gather community feedback before major development decisions.
