ExxonMobil Raises 2030 LNG Sales Target to About 50 Million Tons

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 14, Peter Clarke, Senior Vice President of LNG at ExxonMobil International Limited, said the company expects its global liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales portfolio to reach about 50 million tons per year by 2030, up from its previous target of more than 40 million tons per year. Over the same period, ExxonMobil expects global LNG demand to rise from about 400 million tons per year currently to about 500 million tons per year by 2030.

ExxonMobil's previously announced 2030 business plan shows that the company plans to expand its supply portfolio through LNG projects in markets including the United States, Qatar, Papua New Guinea and Mozambique. In 2025, the company still publicly expected its global LNG supply portfolio to roughly double by 2030 compared with 2020, with sales exceeding 40 million tons per year.

The LNG assets the company is advancing include Golden Pass LNG in the United States, the North Field expansion project in Qatar, Papua LNG in Papua New Guinea and Rovuma LNG in Mozambique. Golden Pass is being jointly developed by ExxonMobil and QatarEnergy; Papua LNG recently further adjusted its project structure, with ExxonMobil taking over operatorship, and the project plans to proceed to a final investment decision in the fourth quarter of 2026.

After the adjustment of the Papua New Guinea project, ExxonMobil's interest in Papua LNG increased to 34.1%. The project is planned to have LNG capacity of about 5.6 million tons per year and will connect with the existing PNG LNG infrastructure operated by ExxonMobil. Mozambique's Rovuma LNG continues to advance pre-investment decision engineering and long-lead equipment procurement to prepare for subsequent project implementation.

ExxonMobil previously expected global LNG demand to continue growing over the long term. The company's energy outlook released in 2025 shows that LNG's share of global natural gas trade is expected to continue expanding; Peter Clarke also said previously that the company is expanding its LNG business portfolio from upstream natural gas resources and liquefaction capacity to global sales through multiple large-scale projects.
