en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 13, Egyptian battery manufacturer BME signed a battery plant construction cooperation agreement with CATL. The first phase of the project involves an investment of more than 2 billion Egyptian pounds, with a planned annual capacity of approximately 1GWh. Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended the signing ceremony, and BME Chairman Maged Wahib and Luo Haining, head of CATL's international investment department, signed the agreement on behalf of both parties.

According to the project plan, the first phase will initially build battery production capacity for heavy commercial vehicles, with the product range subsequently planned to expand to passenger vehicle batteries and energy storage systems. BME project manager Amin Karim Ghabbour disclosed that subsequent phases of the project are planned to continue expanding battery manufacturing scale and increase the proportion of local Egyptian components and production processes involved.

The project is being advanced by Egyptian local company BME, with CATL participating as a partner in battery technology and manufacturing system development. This signing corresponds to a new battery plant project. At the current stage, the cooperation agreement has been signed, and subsequent stages will include plant construction, production equipment configuration, and production line implementation. Public information has not yet disclosed the specific plant site, start date, or first-phase production timeline.

Egypt's industrial authorities have incorporated the project into local battery manufacturing capacity building. Egyptian Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem attended the signing ceremony. The project directions disclosed by the government include electric vehicle batteries and energy storage-related products, and the scope of local production will gradually expand according to subsequent phases of the project.
