Over the same period, the average transit volume through the strait over the past 10 days was approximately 14 ships per day, meaning the total identifiable transit volume over the two weekend days was equivalent to just one day of the recent average.

Kpler's tracking scope covers commodity ships that have their Automatic Identification System (AIS) turned on and can be tracked. Some ships turn off their transponders when transiting the strait, so the actual number of transiting ships may be higher than the identifiable data. Data released on September 10 had shown that on September 9, a total of 7 commodity ships transited the Strait of Hormuz, down from 12 the previous day, with the 10-day average transit volume at that time also approximately 14 ships per day.

Over the past week, identifiable ship traffic through the strait has remained at a relatively low level. Data released on September 7 had shown that on September 5 and 6, only 2 and 6 commodity ships respectively transited the strait, with the 10-day moving average at that time having dropped to approximately 10 ships per day. Single-day transit volumes subsequently recovered somewhat but have not yet steadily returned to the recent moving average level.

Compared with the Strait of Hormuz, ship traffic through the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait was relatively stable over the weekend, with commodity ship transit volumes close to the average of approximately 27 ships per day over the past 10 days.
