Crown's INR 207.8 Billion Beverage Can Plant in India Breaks Ground
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 9, Crown Packaging India, a subsidiary of Crown Holdings, officially commenced construction of its first beverage can plant in India at the Unnao Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster in Uttar Pradesh, India. The project involves a total investment of approximately INR 207.844 billion and covers nearly 40 acres. It will build two aluminum beverage can production lines with an annual capacity of approximately 2.2 billion cans once fully operational, and is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2027.

The new plant is located in Plot No. 4 of the Unnao Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster and marks Crown's first local manufacturing base in India. The project will serve India's beer, carbonated soft drink, energy drink, and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage markets by producing aluminum beverage cans. According to the construction plan previously announced by Crown, the plant will adopt two high-speed can production lines and introduce advanced manufacturing technologies, automated production systems, and energy-saving and environmentally friendly facilities.
On the day of the project's groundbreaking, Crown management and representatives of the Uttar Pradesh government held a foundation stone laying ceremony. Company representatives subsequently met with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and obtained the official land allotment documents for the project. The Uttar Pradesh government is advancing the project under its local foreign direct investment policy framework, and the project construction will also rely on the industrial infrastructure, transportation, and logistics conditions of the Unnao manufacturing and logistics cluster.
Once the plant is fully operational, its annual production capacity of 2.2 billion beverage cans will enable Crown to directly enter India's local beverage packaging supply system. The project construction will cover processes including aluminum can stamping and forming, can body drawing, cleaning, coating, printing, drying, inline inspection, automatic packaging, and finished product logistics, supported by power, utilities, warehousing, and quality control systems. The two production lines will form large-scale continuous production capacity at the same site.
Crown first announced its plan to build a plant in India in April 2026, at which time it had already determined to build two production lines and set the second half of 2027 as the target for commissioning. The official groundbreaking of the Unnao project means the project has moved from the investment planning and site selection stage into the on-site construction stage.
