en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 11, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company Masdar and German energy infrastructure asset management company Luxcara signed a memorandum of understanding, planning to establish a strategic partnership to jointly invest in offshore wind power, battery energy storage, and potentially other energy technologies in Germany and other European markets, with a proposed joint investment scale of more than €5 billion. The agreement was announced during the UAE President's visit to Germany.

The two parties plan to incorporate large-scale renewable energy generation and energy storage projects into the same investment framework, with a focus on Germany's offshore wind power and battery energy storage markets. Areas of cooperation include building new large-scale offshore wind projects or participating in existing ones, as well as developing and investing in battery energy storage systems to enhance grid regulation capacity and renewable energy absorption capacity. The relevant projects will still require the signing of final agreements and the fulfillment of regulatory approvals and other customary conditions.

Masdar currently has a project platform of more than 15.6 GW in Europe and has invested more than $13 billion cumulatively in Europe. In Germany, it has participated in the 476 MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind project; in the UK, it has also participated in large-scale offshore wind assets such as London Array, East Anglia THREE, and the 3 GW Dogger Bank South. Following the establishment of cooperation with Luxcara, its German market layout will further expand from a single offshore wind project to a combined investment model of "offshore wind + energy storage."

Luxcara has long invested in Europe's energy transition infrastructure, with projects covering renewable energy generation, grid connection, and energy storage. The company has previously advanced a 520 MW battery energy storage project in Germany and participated in the supply chain development of offshore wind projects such as Waterkant. After cooperating with Masdar, the two parties will combine Luxcara's project development and asset management capabilities in Europe with Masdar's experience in large-scale project investment and development to jointly screen subsequent projects that can be implemented.

In the same round of German energy cooperation, Masdar also signed another offshore wind cooperation agreement with RWE, planning to participate in future German offshore wind auctions, with an intended investment amount of more than €3 billion. Combined with the over €5 billion cooperation with Luxcara, Masdar's newly added intended energy investment scale in Germany has exceeded €8 billion, focusing on offshore wind power and battery energy storage infrastructure.
