Ball to Build Two New Beverage Can Production Lines in Uttar Pradesh, India
en.Wedoany.com Reported - U.S. packaging company Ball Corporation has announced that it will build a new aluminum beverage can manufacturing plant in Uttar Pradesh, India. The project is planned to be equipped with two production lines as a new greenfield facility and is scheduled to commence operations in 2029. Once completed, the new site will become Ball's third beverage can production base in India, following Taloja in Maharashtra and Sri City in Andhra Pradesh.
Ball's addition of the Uttar Pradesh plant is primarily aimed at expanding local beverage can supply capacity in the Indian market. The company's existing two production bases in Taloja and Sri City have continued to receive capacity investments in recent years, and the new project will establish a new manufacturing node in northern India, extending Ball's production network from the west and south further into the northern market.
The project has been confirmed to adopt two beverage can production lines, but Ball's announcement did not disclose the specific investment amount, the city where the plant will be located, or the designed capacity of each line. The company has confirmed that the investment is supported by customer contracts and has included the project in its existing capital expenditure plan. According to Ball's published capital allocation principles, the company's long-term capital expenditure will be maintained at a level roughly equivalent to depreciation and amortization.
From a production system perspective, the new plant will be configured around large-scale aluminum beverage can production with continuous production processes including can making, forming, printing, coating, inspection, packaging, and logistics. Ball's existing Indian plants primarily serve customers in beer, soft drinks, and other ready-to-drink products, and the new base, once operational, will further enhance supply radius and delivery capability in the northern Indian market.
The Uttar Pradesh government publicly disclosed on September 10 that delegations from Ball and Crown Holdings met with the state government and included the investments of both global beverage can companies in the region in its latest industrial investment progress report. Ball subsequently officially confirmed on September 11 the construction of two new production lines and the 2029 operational timeline, moving the project from preliminary investment discussions to formal public announcement.
