France's Dieppe-Le Tréport Offshore Wind Project Completes Installation of 31 Turbines

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 11, the Dieppe-Le Tréport offshore wind project in France completed the installation of its 31st turbine, reaching 50% progress on the installation of the 62 planned units. Five units are currently in operation and delivering power to the grid, while the project continues to advance array cable installation, with the second phase of cable construction having restarted in mid-August.

The project is located off the coast of Normandy, France, approximately 15 kilometers from Le Tréport and 17 kilometers from Dieppe, with a total installed capacity of about 500 MW, comprising 62 Siemens Gamesa offshore wind turbines. Each unit has a capacity of approximately 8 MW class, a maximum blade tip height of about 202 meters, and a total weight of about 1,500 tonnes per turbine. Turbine installation is carried out by Jan De Nul's self-elevating installation vessel "Vole au Vent," with offshore assembly of a single turbine—from tower and nacelle to three blades—taking approximately 24 hours.

To complete the installation of the first 31 units, the "Vole au Vent" has completed 9 transport and installation voyages between the Port of Le Havre and the project area. At the peak of offshore construction, approximately 10 vessels and up to 300 personnel were involved in on-site operations. The array cable system has a total length of approximately 90 kilometers and a voltage level of 66 kV, used to collect the power generated by the 62 turbines to the offshore substation; the cables are installed using seabed laying, trenching and burial, and localized rock placement for protection.

Offshore foundation construction for the project was completed this summer, and the current focus of work has shifted to the installation of the remaining 31 turbines, array cables, and phased commissioning. According to the project implementation plan, once the conditions for installing the first batch of 25 turbines are met, the project can gradually enter the power generation and commissioning phase; currently, 5 turbines are actually delivering power. The entire wind farm is planned to have all units operational by the end of 2026.
