Construction Starts on the 104MW Imereti Wind Power Project in Georgia

en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Imereti Wind Power Project in Georgia, invested in and developed by Sichuan Energy Development Group and constructed by PowerChina, has officially started construction. The project is located in Sachkhere Municipality, Imereti Region, central Georgia. It plans to build 13 wind turbine units with a total installed capacity of 104 MW and is expected to be connected to the grid in 2027.

The project owner is Infinite Energy LLC. Public tender documents show that the project construction funding consists of owner's self-raised funds and bank loans, with owner's self-raised funds accounting for 30% and bank loans accounting for 70%. The project plans to install 13 wind turbine units with a single-unit capacity of 8 MW, connected via 33 kV collector lines to a 220 kV booster station, and then to a 500 kV booster station for connection to Georgia's main grid.

After completion, the project is expected to generate approximately 340 million kWh of electricity annually on average, which can meet the daily electricity demand of more than 90,000 local households. The project will adopt Chinese standards, technology, equipment, and project management systems, driving the coordinated entry of the wind turbine, electrical equipment, booster station, power transmission and transformation facilities, and engineering construction industrial chains into the Georgian market.

In June this year, Sichuan Energy International completed the equity transfer of the Imereti Wind Power Project company and obtained control of the project. The official commencement of construction marks the project's transition from the investment, merger and acquisition, and early development stage to the engineering construction stage. PowerChina has thereby further expanded its business presence in Georgia's new energy engineering market.
