GE Vernova and Vineyard Wind Settle $1.3 Billion Contract Dispute

Under the agreement, GE Vernova has withdrawn its previously issued contract termination notice, and both parties agreed to dismiss all pending legal claims. The specific terms of the settlement were not disclosed. The dispute involved a wind turbine contract worth approximately $1.3 billion undertaken by GE Vernova's subsidiary GE Renewables US LLC.

Vineyard Wind 1 is located in waters approximately 15 miles south of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, USA, with a total investment of approximately $4.5 billion and an installed capacity of 806 MW, equipped with a total of 62 GE Haliade-X wind turbines, each with a capacity of 13 MW. The project's electricity is connected to the New England grid through an offshore substation, submarine cables, and onshore transmission facilities. The project developer is Vineyard Wind, jointly owned by Avangrid and a fund under Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.

The contract dispute between the two parties further escalated in 2026. GE Vernova previously stated that Vineyard Wind owed approximately $360 million and issued a contract termination notice in February; Vineyard Wind subsequently filed a lawsuit in the Boston state court seeking to prevent GE Vernova from exiting the project. Vineyard Wind claimed that its suspension of certain payments was related to a turbine blade failure at the project in 2024 and subsequent remediation work.

In April, the Suffolk County Superior Court issued a preliminary injunction requiring GE Vernova to continue performing project work and prohibiting it from terminating the contract. In June, the court again refused to lift the injunction or refer the dispute to arbitration. GE Vernova subsequently appealed the relevant rulings, and that appeal has now been withdrawn following the settlement between the two parties.

GE Vernova's work on the project included the design, manufacturing, and installation of wind turbine generators. Vineyard Wind previously stated in the litigation that the project still required GE Vernova to complete final commissioning of the turbines and related technical work. A joint statement issued by both parties on September 16 confirmed that all turbines at the project are now capable of generating electricity.
