ExxonMobil Expects U.S. LNG Supply to Account for About 30% of Global Total by 2030

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 14, Peter Clarke, Senior Vice President of LNG for ExxonMobil's upstream business, said at an energy forum in Bangkok that U.S. liquefied natural gas supply is expected to account for about 30% of total global LNG supply by 2030. He said the United States has become a major global LNG supplier in recent years, and North America's natural gas production base can simultaneously meet domestic consumption and continuously growing export demand.

Data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration show that global LNG trade reached 56.3 billion cubic feet per day in 2025, up 5.4% year on year; U.S. LNG exports rose 26% to 15.1 billion cubic feet per day, accounting for 26% of total global exports, up from 21% in 2024. The United States, Qatar and Australia together accounted for 63% of global LNG exports in 2025. According to ExxonMobil's latest forecast, the U.S. share of global supply will rise further from 26% in 2025 to about 30% by 2030.

U.S. LNG exports are still expanding in 2026. Statistics from the U.S. Energy Information Administration show that in the first half of this year, U.S. LNG exports averaged 17.4 billion cubic feet per day, up 23% year on year, with the additional export capacity mainly coming from the commissioning of newly built liquefaction facilities and the expansion of existing projects. The agency expects U.S. LNG exports to average about 17.3 billion cubic feet per day in the second half of 2026 and to rise further to 18.7 billion cubic feet per day in the first half of 2027.

ExxonMobil itself is expanding its global LNG supply portfolio. The company's plan published in 2026 shows that its global LNG supply is expected to exceed 40 million tons per year by 2030, with related assets located in the United States, Qatar, Papua New Guinea and Mozambique. The company lists LNG as one of its key upstream growth assets.

In the United States, the Golden Pass LNG project, in which ExxonMobil holds a 30% stake, achieved first production from its first liquefaction train in March 2026 and completed its first LNG export cargo in April. The project is located at Sabine Pass in Texas and is equipped with three liquefaction trains. Once fully operational, it is expected to have an annual export capacity of about 18 million tons. Trains 2 and 3 are still under construction and commissioning.
