Halliburton Awarded Deepwater Well Services Contract for Cyprus's Cronos Gas Field

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 15, Halliburton announced that it had been awarded an integrated well construction and completion contract by Eni for Cyprus's Cronos ultra-deepwater gas development project, under which it will provide integrated drilling, well construction, automation, and completion services for exploration and development wells in Block 6 of Cyprus's exclusive economic zone.

The Cronos gas field is operated by Eni, with Eni and TotalEnergies each holding a 50% interest. The project is located in deepwater approximately 185 kilometers southwest of the coast of Cyprus. It was discovered in 2022 through the Cronos-1 well, and the Cronos-2 appraisal well was tested in 2024. According to Eni, the gas field has initial gas in place of more than 3 trillion cubic feet; the Cronos-2 production test showed that under production configuration, a single well has a gas production capacity of more than 150 million standard cubic feet per day.

Eni and TotalEnergies made a final investment decision on the Cronos development in July 2026. The development plan includes 4 subsea production wells, with designed peak production of approximately 500 million standard cubic feet per day. The produced natural gas will be transported via subsea pipeline to Egypt, tied into the Eni-operated Zohr facilities for processing, and then sent to the Damietta liquefied natural gas plant for liquefaction and export, with production scheduled to start in 2028.

Cross-border infrastructure arrangements for the project had already been put in place. In February 2025, Cyprus, Egypt, Eni, and TotalEnergies signed an intergovernmental agreement establishing an implementation framework for the development and export of natural gas from Block 6 through Egypt's existing infrastructure; subsequent project agreements further set out arrangements for the use of the Zohr facilities, gas transit through Egypt, liquefaction at Damietta LNG, and natural gas commercialization.

Under the scope of this contract, Halliburton will be responsible for integrated drilling, wellbore construction, automation, and completion services in Cronos's subsequent well operations, covering both exploration and development well phases.
