en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 16, Norway's Aker BP completed an exploration well operation in the North Sea and discovered natural gas resources. The discovery is located approximately 25 kilometers north of the Duva oil and gas field, with preliminary resource estimates of 1 million to 15 million barrels of oil equivalent. Aker BP serves as the operator and holds a 40% interest, with project partners including Inpex Idemitsu, OKEA, and Harbour Energy.

Under the ownership structure, Inpex Idemitsu holds 30%, OKEA holds 20%, and Harbour Energy holds the remaining 10%. The partners will next combine drilling data and geological information to further evaluate the discovery's size, reservoir continuity, and commercial development potential, and decide whether to drill subsequent appraisal wells.

The scale of this discovery is relatively limited, but its location is close to existing oil and gas production infrastructure in the North Sea. One important direction of Aker BP's current exploration strategy is to prioritize resources near existing platforms, pipelines, and processing facilities, shortening development cycles and reducing unit development costs through methods such as subsea tiebacks. According to the company's official materials, its long-term goal is to concentrate approximately 80% of its exploration activities on such near-infrastructure opportunities.

Aker BP has maintained a high level of exploration intensity in the North Sea this year. In August, the Linga exploration well, in which Equinor and Aker BP participated, discovered natural gas and condensate in the North Sea, with preliminary resource estimates of approximately 1 million to 13 million barrels of oil equivalent; in June, the Carmen discovery appraisal well, in which Aker BP holds an interest, confirmed recoverable resources of approximately 21 million to 107 million barrels of oil equivalent. This new natural gas discovery further supplements the company's North Sea near-infrastructure exploration project portfolio.

Currently, the discovery is still in the exploration and appraisal stage. The license partners will determine, based on the results of this round of drilling, whether the resources meet the commercial development threshold, and will study the necessity of further delineating reserves. If the subsequent resource scale and economics meet development conditions, the project can focus on evaluating tieback development utilizing the nearby existing North Sea oil and gas infrastructure.
