China's First 25,000 m³ Ammonia Dual-Fuel Gas Carrier Officially Named
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 16, the 25,000 m³ ammonia dual-fuel LPG/liquid ammonia carriers (sister ships H2533 and H2534) built by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, designed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute of CSSC, and surveyed by China Classification Society (CCS) for Tianjin Southwest Maritime, were officially named ANDRE M and GAS CORAL at CSSC Huangpu Wenchong. CCS Vice President Zhang Qingwen attended the naming ceremony.
The vessel is the world's second and China's first ammonia dual-fuel LPG/liquid ammonia carrier, and also the first gas carrier of this type to be classed by CCS, featuring high technical standards and significant industry demonstration value. The vessel is equipped with the world's latest high-pressure ammonia direct injection technology, the WinGD 6X52DF‑A‑1.0 ammonia dual-fuel main engine, which can use its own cargo as fuel and is compatible with dual power modes of fuel oil and ammonia fuel; it is fitted with a shaft generator and a high-pressure selective catalytic reduction system (HP‑SCR), which effectively reduces nitrogen oxide (NOₓ) emissions while lowering fuel consumption, meeting IMO Tier II/Tier III emission requirements, with energy efficiency indicators superior to the IMO EEDI‑III standard.
The vessel has an overall length of 159.9 m, is equipped with 3 IMO Type A independent cargo tanks and 2 Type C deck fuel tanks, with a total cargo tank capacity of 25,000 m³ and a minimum design operating temperature of ‑50℃, capable of carrying LPG, liquid ammonia, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), and other liquefied gas cargoes. The vessel is reserved with an ammonia bunkering interface, complies with the CCS Ice Class B ice navigation rules, and can adapt to the operational needs of more complex sea areas.
According to reports, since the project was launched, the Guangzhou Branch has attached great importance to it and established a special major project team for gas carriers composed of plan review, product inspection, and on-site inspection personnel. In response to multiple challenges such as the vessel's complex systems, difficult plan review and on-site inspection, and tight schedule, it coordinated all lines to work in synergy and overcome difficulties, providing the shipowner and shipyard with full-process efficient technical services. In the future, the Guangzhou Branch will continue to deeply cultivate new shipping business forms and new technologies, and promote the green transformation and upgrading of the shipbuilding industry with high-standard inspection services.
