Sweden's Stegra Finalizes Shipping Partners, Green Steel Logistics System Takes Further Shape
en.Wedoany.com Reported - September 15 news: Swedish green steel company Stegra has selected multiple shipping partners for raw material imports and steel product exports for its Boden green steel project. ESL Shipping and Royal Wagenborg will be responsible for the European regional shipping network, transporting iron ore, scrap steel and other raw materials as well as finished steel products; Pangaea Logistics Solutions will mainly handle iron ore shipping; Clarksons will serve as strategic advisor to design and implement shipping and logistics solutions for Stegra.

ESL Shipping confirmed on September 14 that it has signed a long-term transport agreement with Stegra, covering shipping services for both raw materials and finished steel products. The agreement did not disclose the contract value, specific term, annual transport volume or official start date. ESL Shipping mainly operates industrial bulk routes in the Nordic and Baltic regions and has ice-class vessel capacity, enabling it to handle transport to high-latitude ports in winter.
Royal Wagenborg disclosed during the same period that it has signed a multi-year transport agreement with Stegra, responsible for transporting steel products and raw materials between the Baltic Sea region and other European markets. Wagenborg stated that its multi-purpose fleet and ice-class vessels will gradually expand transport capacity in line with Stegra's future production growth.
Pangaea Logistics Solutions will focus on ensuring iron ore shipping supply and will leverage its dry bulk and Arctic ice-zone transport experience to undertake related route tasks. Clarksons had previously participated in the design of Stegra's shipping system, providing advisory services on vessel configuration, route organization and logistics solutions.
Shipping is part of the overall logistics chain of Stegra's Boden project. The company had previously signed a rail transport agreement with Green Cargo, under which Green Cargo is responsible for rail transport of raw materials and finished products between the Boden plant and ports including Luleå, Skellefteå and Umeå. With the shipping partners now determined, Stegra has formed a multimodal transport system of "shipping–port–rail–plant."
The Port of Luleå is Stegra's main logistics node. Stegra and the port authority had previously signed an agreement for approximately 75,000 square meters of port area leasing and logistics, and is building transshipment and storage facilities within the port, mainly handling scrap steel, iron ore pellets, hot-briquetted iron and by-products. The port area is also undergoing railway expansion and loading/unloading facility construction to accommodate the future large-scale inbound and outbound cargo flows of the Boden steel plant.
In July 2026, the Port of Luleå also launched construction of a loading ramp for Stegra's iron ore pellets, with the related port facilities scheduled for completion in 2027. Stegra had previously reached an agreement in principle with LKAB, planning to conduct test shipments of iron ore pellets by the end of 2026 to verify raw material supply and logistics chain operations.
Stegra is building an integrated green hydrogen, direct reduced iron and steel production base in Boden, Sweden. After completing EUR 1.4 billion in financing in June, the company is again accelerating construction and production preparation for the Boden project. Shipping and rail supply chain contracts are being finalized one after another, corresponding to its progression from the plant construction phase to the raw material supply and finished product logistics preparation phase.
