Hengli Heavy Industry Secures Orders for 8 Ultra-Large Crude Oil Tankers and Liquid Ammonia Carriers, Totaling Nearly USD 1 Billion

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 14, Hengli Heavy Industry confirmed that it had secured a new batch of construction orders for 8 vessels from Greek shipowner Dynacom, covering ship types including Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCC) and 93,000 cubic meter Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLAC), with a total contract value approaching USD 1 billion. Shipbuilding market information indicates that this batch of orders is expected to include 6 93,000 cubic meter VLACs and 2 VLCCs. Hengli Heavy Industry's public information has not yet separately disclosed the specific number of each ship type, the per-vessel price, or the delivery schedule.

Dynacom is one of Hengli Heavy Industry's first overseas shipowners, and the two parties have previously carried out batch cooperation on ship types including VLCCs and Kamsarmax bulk carriers. Hengli Heavy Industry disclosed in May that, as of that time, it had delivered 2 306,000 deadweight ton VLCCs and 11 82,000 deadweight ton bulk carriers to Dynacom; at the end of May, the 13th 82,000 deadweight ton bulk carrier between the two parties was delivered. With the addition of this new order for 8 vessels, the total number of vessels ordered by Dynacom at Hengli Heavy Industry and already delivered has exceeded 50, and the ship types have further expanded to VLACs, VLCCs, Suezmax tankers, and Kamsarmax bulk carriers.

Among these, the 93,000 cubic meter VLAC is a ship type that the two parties have focused on adding this year. In July this year, Dynacom placed its first order for 2 vessels of the same type at Hengli Heavy Industry, scheduled for delivery in 2028, with a market price of approximately USD 115 million per vessel at that time. If the market information on this batch of 6 VLACs is ultimately confirmed, Dynacom's 93,000 cubic meter VLAC order scale at Hengli Heavy Industry will increase to 8 vessels.

Hengli Heavy Industry has significantly expanded its liquid ammonia carrier orders this year. The company disclosed in July that in the first half of 2026 it had cumulatively undertaken 207 new vessels, among which it obtained its first order for 8 VLACs; as of the first half of the year, it had cumulatively undertaken more than 500 vessels, with delivery schedules extending to 2030. In August, the company further disclosed that within one week it had signed contracts for 6 VLACs with three international shipowners, including 4 93,000 cubic meter vessels and 2 88,000 cubic meter vessels.

Hengli Heavy Industry currently has the conditions for batch construction of 93,000 cubic meter VLACs. The company's first VLAC of the same type was launched on June 23. The vessel adopts independently produced cargo tanks and is equipped with an LPG dual-fuel engine manufactured by Hengli Heavy Industry. During the construction process, 800-ton and 1,500-ton gantry cranes were used in coordination to complete the hoisting of large cargo tanks, and after launching, the vessel entered the quay outfitting stage.

Dynacom has also continued to expand its VLCC orders at Hengli Heavy Industry this year. In August, the shipowner added 4 VLCC orders; before this new batch of 8 vessels, its VLCC construction plan at Hengli Heavy Industry had reached at least 20 vessels, of which 4 have already been delivered.
