en.Wedoany.com Reported - Canadian company Soma Gold has announced the latest drilling results from the Atenas area of the Cordero gold mine in Colombia, identifying a new high-grade quartz vein approximately 20 meters in the hanging wall of the existing Atenas vein. Since 2026, the company has completed 16 drill holes in the Atenas area, totaling 1,838 meters of drilling, with the goal of supporting existing mine production and expanding the known quartz vein system toward the shallow and up-dip directions.

The newly discovered vein, temporarily named uUAV, has a confirmed strike length of approximately 175 meters and remains open to the north-northwest; it has been traced approximately 30 meters along dip and is currently still unclosed in the up-dip direction. The vein consists of milky white to semi-transparent quartz veins, with locally fault-filled vein widths of up to 8.55 meters and a maximum true thickness of approximately 6.05 meters, accompanied by 10–30 cm thick stockwork mineralization zones.

This round of drilling returned multiple high-grade gold mineralization intercepts. Among them, hole UATDDH-26-008 intersected 3.0 meters at 28.2 g/t gold, including 0.47 meters at 167.2 g/t gold; UATDDH-26-011 intersected 3.8 meters at 20.6 g/t gold, including 0.8 meters at 94.5 g/t gold; and BASDDH-25-038 intersected 6.05 meters at 15.3 g/t gold, including 0.64 meters at 60.5 g/t gold.

A total of 811 core samples were collected from 14 drill holes with completed assays, of which 47 samples returned gold grades exceeding 2.5 g/t and 20 samples exceeded 10 g/t; 29 composite sample groups with gold grades exceeding 1.0 g/t have been identified, with the highest composite grade at 28.2 g/t. Assay results for two additional drill holes are still pending.

The company also re-examined core from historical drill holes. In a historical drill hole located down-dip of the new vein, a quartz vein interval approximately 10 meters long containing pyrite, sphalerite, and galena was identified, which had not been previously sampled. This interval is currently being re-sampled to determine whether it represents the down-dip extension of the newly discovered vein. Photographs of other historical core will also continue to be reviewed.

The Cordero deposit is hosted within the El Carmen intrusive body, with primary mineralization controlled by steeply dipping, nearly north-south trending regional shear zones. The existing mining area is divided into five main zones: Atenas, Cordero, Venus, Venus Gap, and Victoria Ramp. Soma Gold stated that the newly discovered vein at Atenas is close to existing underground mining operations, and it will continue to test its extension through infill and step-out drilling, and evaluate the possibility of incorporating it into mineral resources and the mine production plan.
