E.ON and BYD Partner to Launch Smart Charging Solution, First Landing in Germany in November
en.Wedoany.com Reported - German energy company E.ON and BYD have announced a strategic partnership to develop joint solutions around electric vehicles, smart charging, and energy flexibility services. The first joint product is planned for launch in Germany in November 2026, combining BYD battery electric vehicle purchase or lease options with E.ON smart electricity contracts, and will be available across BYD's full range of battery electric models. The two parties subsequently plan to gradually expand the related solutions to other European markets.

Under the cooperation arrangement, E.ON will be responsible for electricity supply, smart charging, and flexibility management, while BYD will provide electric vehicles and battery technology. After the first German users are connected to the smart charging function, E.ON will automatically optimize charging periods based on power system operations and user charging needs, and compensate flexible electricity use through a dedicated incentive mechanism. For leased vehicle users, the solution is expected to reduce usage costs by up to EUR 20 per month.
The two parties also plan to gradually integrate BYD vehicles into the E.ON Home Comfort home energy management platform. The platform currently can connect devices such as charging wallboxes, home energy storage, and heat pumps. After BYD vehicles are integrated, users will be able to manage vehicles, smart charging, and other home energy devices within a unified digital platform. The two parties also plan to continue advancing app service integration and to test digital functions such as mixed reality in vehicle setup and delivery processes.
Building on smart charging, E.ON and BYD will also jointly test energy flexibility technologies such as bidirectional charging. The planned V2G function will enable electric vehicle traction batteries to participate in grid charging and discharging regulation while meeting vehicle usage needs. The cooperation between the two parties starts first with smart charging and electricity price incentive products, while bidirectional charging is currently in the subsequent testing and scale-up preparation stage.
E.ON already conducts home energy management, smart charging, and bidirectional charging-related businesses in Europe, while BYD continues to expand passenger vehicle sales and battery business in Europe. This cooperation will begin execution in the German market and gradually enter more European countries based on the operational performance of the first products.
