Norway's Omega Subsea Signs Five-Year ROV Deployment Agreement with NKT

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 24, Norwegian subsea service provider Omega Subsea signed a new five-year agreement with NKT to provide remotely operated vehicle (ROV) systems and related services for the newly built cable-laying vessel NKT Eleonora. Previously, Omega Subsea had secured a five-year ROV service contract for the cable-laying vessel NKT Victoria. Both vessels are currently in the ROV system mobilization and installation phase.

Under the contract arrangement, Omega Subsea is responsible for the delivery, mobilization, and long-term operational support of the ROV systems. NKT Victoria will complete the relevant system installation at the Ulsteinvik shipyard in Norway, while NKT Eleonora will carry out equipment mobilization in Brattvåg. ROV services on NKT Victoria are scheduled to be operational by the end of 2026, and the ROV system on NKT Eleonora is expected to be mobilized in January 2027.

NKT Victoria will also be equipped with two launch and recovery systems (LARS) supplied by Ulmatec, installed within the vessel's hangar, to support the operation of two new ROVs from Omega Subsea. Omega Subsea plans to receive eight new Kystdesign ROV systems in 2026, four of which will be deployed on NKT-related projects; the company's current plans show that by the end of 2026 its WROV fleet will expand to 20 units, with plans to grow its total ROV fleet to more than 30 units by mid-2028.

NKT Eleonora is a next-generation cable-laying vessel under construction for NKT, capable of carrying more than 23,000 tonnes of submarine cable. It is designed by Salt Ship Design and built and outfitted by VARD, and is scheduled to enter service in 2027, primarily undertaking high-voltage power cable projects in Europe. NKT Victoria has been in operation since 2017 and, after upgrades, has a cable-carrying capacity of approximately 11,000 tonnes, and continues to be used for offshore high-voltage cable installation.

Omega Subsea will also expand its personnel and logistics capabilities for the above contracts, planning to add 6 to 12 offshore and onshore employees, and to expand the warehousing and logistics capacity of its Hilleren facility.
