Pratt & Whitney Canada and AirBorneo Sign Four-Year PW127M Engine Maintenance Agreement

en.Wedoany.com Reported - RTX's Pratt & Whitney Canada has signed a four-year PW127M engine maintenance agreement with Malaysia's AirBorneo Airways. Under the agreement, Pratt & Whitney Canada will provide maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for the PW127M engines powering AirBorneo's in-service ATR 72-500 regional turboprop aircraft, with the contract term extending through 2030. The related maintenance work will be performed primarily at Pratt & Whitney Canada's recently expanded Singapore maintenance facility.

AirBorneo currently operates 8 ATR 72-500 aircraft, which were transferred from the former MASWings fleet and primarily serve Rural Air Service (RAS) routes in eastern Malaysia, covering regions including Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan. ATR disclosed in February this year that AirBorneo's in-service fleet also includes 6 DHC-6-400 Twin Otter aircraft.

This contract covers the PW127M engines of AirBorneo's in-service ATR 72-500 fleet. Pratt & Whitney Canada will provide full MRO services, with the Singapore facility serving as the primary execution base. The facility recently completed an expansion of its turboprop engine maintenance capability, providing engine maintenance support to operators in the Asia-Pacific region. The joint announcement did not disclose the contract value, the specific number of engines included in the maintenance plan, or the turnaround time per engine.

AirBorneo's existing 8 ATR 72-500 aircraft will gradually enter the fleet renewal cycle over the coming years. The company has confirmed orders for 8 next-generation ATR aircraft, including 5 ATR 72-600 and 3 ATR 42-600, and holds purchase rights for an additional 4 aircraft, with deliveries scheduled between 2027 and 2029. The newly ordered ATR aircraft will be powered by PW127XT series engines.
