Sandvik Wins Order for 27 Underground Mining Equipment Units in Kazakhstan

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 28, Sandvik announced that it had won an order from Orken LLP, the iron ore business company under Qarmet, to supply 27 units of underground mining equipment for the Atasu operation of the West Karazhal mine in Kazakhstan, supporting the local transition from manual excavation to mechanized mining. Equipment delivery is scheduled to begin in December 2026 and continue through January 2028, with the Rhino 600 raise boring rig planned for delivery in June 2028.

The order covers 13 Toro TH430 trucks, 5 Toro LH410 loaders, 3 Sandvik DL321 longhole drills, 2 Sandvik DD311 development drills, 2 Toro TH320 trucks and 1 Toro LH307 loader, as well as 1 Rhino 600 raise boring rig. In addition to the equipment itself, Sandvik will also provide maintenance kits, rock drilling tool packages, training and support.

Training will be rolled out in phases, with the first batch of 300 Orken employees to receive training. Sandvik stated that the training program covers equipment operation and maintenance, safety, machine systems, diagnostics and troubleshooting, and provides simulator-based training for some loader and drill operators; during equipment commissioning and start-up, the company will also dispatch personnel to provide on-site training and operational support.

Orken's leadership said that Sandvik won this order due to the high quality of its underground equipment, its well-established local service support, and the existing cooperative relationship between the supplier and this mining company. Chief Executive Officer Makhmut Mustafin stated that it is equally important that Sandvik will work with Orken to develop the skills and expertise of the existing workforce, helping employees play an important role in the next phase of mine development.

The Atasu mine has been in operation for 70 years and is reported to have an annual iron ore capacity of up to 2.2 million tonnes. The mine is located in the Ulytau region of central Kazakhstan.
