US 143,000-ton SAF Project Wigeon Enters FEED

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 28, SkyNRG selected Technip Energies, Sasol, and Topsoe to advance the FEED for the Project Wigeon sustainable aviation fuel project in Washington State, USA. The project is located in the Wallula Gap Industrial Park at the Port of Walla Walla, with a planned annual production of approximately 50 million gallons, equivalent to 143,000 tons of SAF and renewable diesel, using renewable natural gas as the primary feedstock, targeting production by 2031.

Topsoe and Sasol each signed basic engineering design package agreements with SkyNRG, responsible for their respective technology licensing, engineering design, and technical services. The project will combine Topsoe's SynCOR autothermal reforming and hydroprocessing technologies with Sasol's Fischer-Tropsch synthesis technology to convert renewable natural gas into synthetic fuels; Technip Energies is responsible for overall engineering support and will leverage its modular project execution experience to advance the FEED.

The project site covers approximately 165 acres, and a land purchase agreement has been signed with the Port of Walla Walla. The Washington State Department of Ecology has completed the SEPA review, and the project obtained its overall environmental permit in December 2025, with relevant land, water resource protection, and fuel transportation conditions having entered the basis for subsequent engineering design. Current plans indicate that main construction is expected to begin in 2028, with a construction period of approximately 3 years.

On the feedstock side, biomethane from landfills, wastewater treatment facilities, and livestock biogas projects within the United States will be used and delivered to the project through the existing natural gas pipeline network. The Wallula Gap Industrial Park has the conditions to connect to the GTN interstate natural gas pipeline, and the region also has multiple potential RNG supply sources in Washington State and Oregon.

On the product side, the project targets the aviation fuel markets of Washington State and the US West Coast, and can transport to major airports through the existing rail and road fuel logistics system. SkyNRG has received project cooperation support including from Boeing and has established long-term SAF offtake arrangements. After the project is operational, it is expected to provide approximately 100 long-term jobs, with peak construction employment of approximately 600 people.
