Alstom Signs Hanoi Metro Train Supply and Localization Agreement with Vietnam's Vingroup
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 6, Alstom and Vietnam's Vingroup, through its member company Vinhomes, signed a rolling stock supply contract and a technology licensing agreement to provide Metropolis trains for the Hanoi urban rail transit project. Alstom will design, manufacture, and supply up to 83 five-car trainsets, while also providing a technology license to support Vingroup in assembling an additional 117 trainsets in Vietnam. Alstom stated that the related orders are expected to be recorded in the company's order book after financial close.

The first batch of 83 trainsets will be designed and manufactured at Alstom's Valenciennes-Petite-Forêt plant in France. The subsequent 117 trainsets will be assembled in Vietnam, with Alstom providing technology, engineering support, production tooling, and key components to Vingroup. The two parties have not yet disclosed the contract value, the delivery schedule for the first batch of trains, or the commissioning arrangements for the local assembly facility in Vietnam.
The trains feature aluminum car bodies and a wide-body carriage design, equipped with a GoA4 fully automated driverless system. The braking system adopts a combined regenerative braking and disc braking solution, which can recover energy during train braking. All vehicles are configured in five-car trainsets.
The Hanoi municipal government simultaneously launched five urban rail transit lines on June 22, involving Lines 1, 2, 8, 10, and 14, with a total length of approximately 303.5 kilometers and an initial total investment of approximately VND 1.315 trillion. Public project information shows that a consortium formed by Vinhomes and VinSpeed is participating in the construction of the aforementioned lines.
Alstom had previously participated in the construction of Hanoi Metro Line 3. The company supplied Line 3 with 10 four-car Metropolis trainsets, the Urbalis 400 signaling system, power supply systems, and depot-related equipment. The elevated section of Hanoi Metro Line 3 entered passenger service in August 2024.
