en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 6, the trans-Saharan fiber optic backbone connecting Niger and Algeria officially entered operation. The inauguration ceremony was held in Assamaka, a border town in the Agadez Region of Niger, and was co-hosted by Hamani Kalne, Niger's Minister of Communication and New Information Technologies, and Sid Ali Zerrouki, Algeria's Minister of Post and Telecommunications. The newly opened route connects the existing telecommunications networks of both countries and was implemented with the participation of the relevant authorities and telecommunications operating agencies of both countries.

What has been put into operation is the cross-border section of the trans-Saharan backbone connecting Niger and Algeria. The route crosses the border from the In Guezzam area of Algeria and connects to the communication network in the direction of Arlit and Agadez in Niger, forming a terrestrial fiber optic data transmission path between the two countries. Information released by the Algerian side during the same period shows that the newly opened link has an initial transmission capacity of 100Gbps and can transmit data between the telecommunications networks of the two countries.

During the inauguration ceremony, heads of Niger Telecom and Algérie Télécom participated in the project operation handover and related activities. Niger's Ministry of Communication and New Information Technologies confirmed that the cross-border link has entered the actual operation phase and will continue to extend to the domestic communication network in Niger, providing access conditions for local telecommunications operators, enterprises, and public institutions.

This cross-border section is part of the trans-Saharan fiber optic backbone network and involves the interconnection of terrestrial communication infrastructure between the two countries. Niger's competent authorities will continue to advance the construction of the domestic extension network and operational access arrangements.
