en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 8, German cutting tool manufacturer Walter announced the expansion of its Xtra·tec XT M5130 series milling cutters, adding new cutter body sizes with diameters of 100 mm, 125 mm, and 160 mm, and extending the machining diameter coverage to 315 mm through arbor-mounted tools. The new products are primarily aimed at shallow-depth-of-cut milling of large flat surfaces and stepped structures, suitable for operations with cutting depths of less than 16 mm.

This expansion continues to use the BC09 and BC12 series indexable inserts, with BC09 inserts corresponding to 80 mm, 100 mm, and 125 mm cutter bodies, and BC12 inserts corresponding to 100 mm, 125 mm, and 160 mm cutter bodies. The smaller insert sizes allow more cutting edges to be arranged at the same tool diameter, improving material removal efficiency when machining the surfaces of large workpieces and shortening machining cycles.

The new sizes retain the insert mounting structure of the M5130 series. In this series, the cross-sectional area around the insert mounting hole is increased by 12%, the contact area between the insert and the insert seat is increased by 34%, and the strength of the cutter body tooth back is increased by 40%, all intended to enhance structural stability during the cutting process. The tools feature a 90-degree lead angle design and offer different pitch configurations that can be adjusted according to the workpiece material and cutting conditions.

The expanded product range covers face milling, square shoulder milling, pocket milling, ramping, and circular interpolation milling, and is suitable for ISO P, K, M, N, and S material groups, including steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and heat-resistant alloys. The smaller indexable inserts also reduce the amount of tool material consumed per replacement.
