en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 5, Australia's Goodman Group signed a supplementary document to the urban development agreement with the municipal government of Neu-Isenburg, Germany, and the local utility company SWNI, planning to feed up to 50MW of waste heat generated by the FRA02 data center into the city's district heating network, supplying heat to approximately 600 residential, commercial, and public buildings. The data center is located in Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt, with a planned IT load capacity of 54MW, and is expected to commence operations in 2028.

This supplementary agreement builds on the urban development agreement signed by the three parties in 2024, providing a further cooperation framework for the data center's waste heat utilization facilities and subsequent campus expansion. Goodman and SWNI will also sign a dedicated infrastructure agreement specifying the arrangements for FRA02 to deliver heat to the city's heating network. The three parties have conducted approximately four years of coordination work on the project's technical conditions, planning requirements, and commercial arrangements.

The waste heat recovery system will be connected to the district heating network constructed and operated by SWNI, with the heating scope covering the southern Neu-Isenburg industrial park, the Neue Welt residential area, and the Waldschwimmbad public swimming pool. SWNI is responsible for the construction and operation of the district heating network and associated heating facilities, while Goodman is responsible for investing in and constructing the technical equipment required at the data center site to connect to the heating network, and for providing SWNI with the land needed for its planned heating plant.

The FRA02 project has obtained building permits and environmental permits, and data center construction is underway. The on-site high-voltage substation works are planned for completion within 2026, and the relevant power transformers were delivered to the project site in April. SWNI's associated heating plant is planned to commence construction in 2028, and the specific commissioning date of the heating network has not yet been announced.

The data center also plans to adopt a closed-loop cooling system to reduce drinking water consumption, and to install photovoltaic systems and green facades on the building rooftops. The above facilities are incorporated into the existing design scheme of the FRA02 project and will be constructed separately from the waste heat recovery facilities planned in this instance.

Goodman has previously completed the acquisition of the land for the FRA02 project and has carried out development and construction on the former industrial land. The supplementary agreement signed this time covers subsequent data center campus development and heating infrastructure connection matters, while the dedicated infrastructure agreement is still pending formal signing.
