Greece's Faria Renewables 134MWh Energy Storage Project Commissioned

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 13, Faria Renewables of Greece held a commissioning ceremony for the Faria Galani independent battery energy storage station in the municipality of Elassona, Larissa regional unit, Thessaly region. The project represents a total investment of EUR 28 million, with a rated power of 49.9 MW and an energy storage capacity of 134.16 MWh. Located in Galanovrysi, the project completed energization in July 2026. Faria Renewables was responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the project, which was financed through a loan from Attica Bank of Greece and support from the EU Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The station adopts an independent battery energy storage system. Based on the rated output power and energy storage capacity, the duration at full power continuous discharge is approximately 2.69 hours. The project includes supporting 150/20 kV step-up substation facilities and conducts charging and discharging operations through the grid connection system. Faria Renewables undertook the engineering design, equipment procurement, construction, and system integration of the energy storage facilities.

The project was selected in February 2024 in the second round of competitive tenders for independent battery energy storage capacity organized by the Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy, Waste and Water. In July 2025, Faria Renewables signed a project construction loan agreement with Attica Bank. The financing arrangement was incorporated into Greece's National Recovery and Resilience Plan and supported by the EU's NextGenerationEU funding mechanism.

At the end of July 2025, the project completed the installation of the liquid-cooled battery energy storage system and major supporting equipment. After completing energization in July 2026, Faria Renewables continued to advance project operational preparations and held the official commissioning ceremony on October 13. Representatives from the Thessaly region, the local government of Elassona, financial institutions, and the energy industry attended the event.
