China's Gansu-Zhejiang UHV Project Yangtze River Crossing Stringing Scheduled for Completion Today
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 26, the Gansu-Zhejiang ±800 kV ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission project advanced conductor stringing operations for the Yangtze River large crossing in Wuhu City, Anhui Province. According to the construction schedule, the cross-river stringing was to be completed that day, with the entire Anhui section expected to achieve full connectivity by the end of October. The project is a key national "West-to-East Power Transmission" initiative, with a line length of approximately 2,370 kilometers and a designed transmission capacity of 8 million kilowatts. It is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in 2027.

The Yangtze River large crossing is located near Digang Town, Fanchang District, Wuhu City, with Anhui Power Transmission and Transformation Engineering Co., Ltd. undertaking the related construction work. Cross-river stringing began on October 18 with navigation closure for construction. Workers used vessels to pull pilot ropes to the north bank of the Yangtze River, after which conductor stringing proceeded. According to the construction arrangement published by the Wuhu Maritime Safety Administration, the related operations involve the Digang waterway and require coordinated implementation of temporary navigation closure and water traffic control.
The Gansu-Zhejiang UHV project starts from the Wuwei Converter Station in Gansu in the west and ends at the Yuezhou Converter Station in Shaoxing, Zhejiang in the east, passing through six provinces and autonomous regions: Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Henan, Anhui and Zhejiang. Flexible DC transmission technology is adopted at both the sending and receiving ends. Currently, the Gansu section completed stringing for the Yellow River large crossing and achieved full connectivity in September; the Henan section completed conductor stringing for the Ningxi Railway crossing on October 22; and the Zhejiang section had previously achieved full connectivity. The Anhui section is advancing cross-river stringing and construction of the remaining line sections.
After the project is completed and put into operation, it is expected to transmit more than 36 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to Zhejiang annually, of which more than 21.2 billion kilowatt-hours will be from new energy sources. It will primarily serve to transmit power from Gansu's wind, photovoltaic and other new energy bases to the East China region.
