en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 28, the Government of Tanzania officially granted 4 oil and gas exploration licenses to the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), covering the Mnazi Bay North, West Songo Songo, Lindi-Mtwara, and Eyasi-Wembere blocks. The signing ceremony was held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam and was attended by Tanzanian Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi.

The Mnazi Bay North block is located offshore, with a water depth of nearly 800 meters. TPDC has completed the interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data and delineated potential natural gas exploration targets. In the next stage, further detailed seismic data interpretation will be carried out, and the first exploration well in the block will be prepared for drilling.

The West Songo Songo block has completed 2D seismic data interpretation, and areas with oil and gas exploration potential have been identified. TPDC is preparing to procure a 3D seismic exploration contractor. After new seismic data are obtained, the drilling location of the first exploration well will be further determined.

The Lindi-Mtwara block has completed 2D seismic data interpretation, and supplementary 3D seismic data are currently being acquired. Potential drilling targets will subsequently be determined based on the new seismic data.

The Eyasi-Wembere block has previously carried out airborne gravity gradiometry surveys and geochemical surveys, and 2D seismic data acquisition has now commenced. TPDC will decide whether to proceed with 3D seismic exploration or advance drilling preparation based on the results of this survey round.

The licenses for the 4 blocks were signed by the Tanzanian Ministry of Energy, and the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority of Tanzania is responsible for supervising subsequent exploration activities. TPDC will arrange subsequent seismic acquisition, engineering procurement, and exploration well preparation separately for each block based on the completed geological surveys and seismic data interpretation results.
