en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 31, the first batch of concrete for the nuclear island foundation of Unit 5 of the State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) Shandong Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant was poured in Haiyang City, Yantai City, Shandong Province, marking the start of the main civil construction phase of the nuclear island. The unit adopts the domestically produced third-generation CAP1000 passive pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology, with a single-unit installed capacity of 1.25 million kilowatts, and is the first unit of Phase III of the Haiyang Nuclear Power Project. Phase III plans to build two units, Units 5 and 6, with a combined installed capacity of 2.5 million kilowatts.

On October 29, the National Nuclear Safety Administration issued construction licenses for Units 5 and 6 to Shandong Nuclear Power Company No. 3 Nuclear Energy Co., Ltd., and completed a nuclear safety supervision inspection of the construction preparations for the nuclear island of Unit 5, confirming that the site meets the conditions for pouring concrete for the nuclear island foundation. The construction license numbers for the two units are Guo He An Zheng Zi No. 2622 and No. 2623, respectively, both valid until October 28, 2036.

The rebar construction for the nuclear island foundation base slab of Unit 5 had previously completed the relevant nuclear safety supervision inspection. On April 16, the conventional island of the unit completed its first concrete pour, with the first pouring area covering approximately 383.5 square meters, a base slab thickness of 2 meters, and approximately 788 cubic meters of concrete poured. The nuclear island construction preparations also underwent a special inspection organized by the National Nuclear Safety Administration from August 25 to 28.

Units 5 and 6 of Phase III of the Haiyang Nuclear Power Project were approved by the State Council on April 27, 2025, and adopt domestically produced CAP1000 technology. In accordance with the construction license requirements of the National Nuclear Safety Administration, the first concrete pour for the nuclear island of Unit 6 must separately complete the regulatory control point release procedure, and main pipeline welding is also listed as a subsequent nuclear safety control milestone.
