en.Wedoany.com Reported - On November 1, Italy's Grimaldi Group completed a new PCTC (Pure Car and Truck Carrier) order at a shipyard under China Merchants Group, bringing its total PCTC orders at the yard to ten; at the same time, Grimaldi signed a 5+5 letter of intent (LOI) with China Merchants for a new-generation multipurpose PCTC with a capacity of more than 10,000 CEU (standard car equivalent units) per vessel.

The tenth PCTC is an addition to Grimaldi's existing series at China Merchants' Jiangsu shipyard rather than a new ship type. The series consists of 9,800 CEU-class ammonia-fuel-ready PCTCs, with the first vessel, "Grande Pacifico," delivered in August 2026 and subsequent vessels scheduled for delivery in succession. The finalization of this tenth vessel brings Grimaldi's firm orders in this series to ten, with ship parameters and construction standards consistent with the first nine vessels in the series. The series is classed by RINA and will primarily be deployed on Asia-Europe routes upon delivery.

The 5+5 letter of intent points to a different ship type tier: a multipurpose PCTC with a capacity of more than 10,000 CEU per vessel. Compared with the existing 9,800 CEU series, the ship type covered by the new letter of intent further increases car-deck capacity and is explicitly designed as "multipurpose," capable of accommodating other roll-on/roll-off cargo types in addition to cars and trucks.
