en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 30, the U.S. Department of Energy issued new natural gas export authorizations to two Mexican energy companies, approving Energia de Baja California and Energia Chihuahua to export up to 43.1 billion and 38.3 billion cubic feet of natural gas, respectively, to Mexico via U.S.-Mexico border pipelines, for a combined authorized volume of 81.4 billion cubic feet, equivalent to approximately 2.305 billion cubic meters. Both authorizations are valid for two years, taking effect on December 11 and December 3, 2026, respectively.

Energia de Baja California received Order No. 5515, with application docket number 26-114-NG. The company filed its application on August 20 and was authorized to export natural gas through any cross-border point on the U.S.-Mexico border, with the authorization valid until December 10, 2028. Its existing Order No. 5159 is valid until December 10, 2026.

Energia Chihuahua received Order No. 5516, with application docket number 26-113-NG. The company also filed its application on August 20 and was authorized to export up to 38.3 billion cubic feet of natural gas through U.S.-Mexico border pipelines. The new authorization is valid until December 2, 2028, succeeding Order No. 5157, which expires on December 2, 2026.

Both authorizations were issued pursuant to Section 3(c) of the U.S. Natural Gas Act. The U.S. Department of Energy determined that the applications met the statutory requirements for natural gas trade with free trade agreement countries.

Under the terms of the authorizations, both companies must submit monthly FE-746R natural gas import/export reports documenting actual export activities and transportation. Reports must also be filed for months in which no exports occur, indicating no activity. Both companies must submit their first report following the effective date of the new authorizations by January 30, 2027.
