Skanska Tops Out Timber New York AI Research Building

Wedoany.com Report-Jul. 15, Skanska has completed the structural framework for the Artificial Intelligence and Quantitative Biology building at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) in New York. Constructed with cross-laminated timber, the three-story facility will support NeuroAI research, featuring 15 principal investigator offices, 96 postdoctoral workstations, seven research administration offices, three administrative offices, and ten meeting rooms.

Scheduled for completion in 2027, the building is part of CSHL’s 379,500-square-foot expansion, which includes neuroscience and cancer biology labs and a parking garage. A $500 million second phase will add an 81,000-square-foot research housing and conference center and a 56,000-square-foot collaborative research center for visiting scientists, with $55 million in funding from New York State Empire State Development.

CSHL President Bruce Stillman said: “We cannot predict the future, but we can prepare for it, and that is what Foundations for the Future does. The ongoing expansion will help ensure that CSHL remains at the global epicenter of biology research and education for generations.” The project reinforces CSHL’s leadership in biological sciences.
