Rawalpindi District, Pakistan Advances Infrastructure Development in 26 Villages

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On November 2, the government of Rawalpindi District in Punjab Province, Pakistan, announced implementation arrangements for model village development and clean drinking water projects in 26 villages, with the district government directly responsible for project supervision and coordination. In the first phase, 50 million Pakistani rupees will be allocated to each Tehsil (administrative subdivision) to launch village infrastructure construction, focusing on clean drinking water, sewage drainage systems, and cement-hardened roads.

According to the arrangements disclosed at a Rawalpindi District government meeting, the relevant development funds will be supervised by the Assistant Commissioners of each Tehsil, with village councils participating in identifying specific construction projects and assisting in implementation. Local authorities have also required each Tehsil to establish model village committees as soon as possible to coordinate village infrastructure development needs. Construction of the 26 model villages is currently underway.

Water supply facilities are an important component of this plan. The Punjab Clean Drinking Water Authority reported to the meeting that Rawalpindi District currently has 241 water filtration facilities, of which 182 are operational. In addition, the Punjab Chief Minister's Clean Drinking Water Program is installing 252 new water filtration facilities across 5 Tehsils in the district, including 94 reverse osmosis (RO) units and 158 media filtration units.

Under the management arrangements established at the meeting, the district government will be responsible for the administrative management, operation and maintenance, technical supervision, and personnel management of both new and existing water filtration facilities. The related work involves daily operation and maintenance following facility construction, covering not only the installation of new equipment but also the management of existing filtration facilities.

This plan integrates village roads, sewage drainage, and drinking water facilities into a single local infrastructure development arrangement. First-phase funds are allocated by Tehsil, with specific projects supervised by local Assistant Commissioners and implementation content determined in conjunction with needs proposed by village councils.
