en.Wedoany.com Reported - On November 5, Cardinal Energy of Canada announced the latest construction progress of the Reford 2 steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) project in Saskatchewan. The first 6 horizontal well pairs of the project are being drilled; all production wells and steam injection wells have completed surface hole section construction and have now entered the intermediate hole section drilling stage. The project's designed daily oil production capacity has been increased from 4,250 barrels to 6,000 barrels, with first steam injection planned for the summer of 2027.

The main earthworks at the central processing facility site of the Reford 2 project have been essentially completed. According to the company's latest construction schedule, prefabricated processing modules are planned to begin arriving at the site in early December 2026, followed by module installation and surface facility construction. The project adopts a modular central processing facility, which works in conjunction with the production wells and steam injection wells at the well pad for heavy oil development.

The two wastewater disposal wells supporting the project have been drilled, and subsequent injection capacity tests have achieved positive results. The two wells will provide wastewater disposal capacity for the Reford 2 production facilities and, together with the first SAGD well pad currently being drilled, form the subsurface well network system for oilfield development.

On September 14, 2026, Cardinal Energy decided to expand the scale of Reford 2 construction, increasing the designed daily oil production capacity from 4,250 barrels to 6,000 barrels. The expansion is expected to add approximately CAD 40 million in capital expenditure, with most of the additional investment planned for execution in 2027. The company continues to advance well pad drilling and surface facility construction toward the target of first steam injection in the summer of 2027.

According to the company's latest construction schedule, after the Reford 2 well pad drilling is completed, the drilling rig will move to the nearby Reford 1 project, which is already in production, to drill the first two pairs of production-maintenance horizontal wells. These two well pairs are planned to be completed and begin steam injection by mid-2027.
