Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 3, Fugro, a Netherlands-based company, has been awarded multiple contracts to conduct offshore and onshore site surveys in the United Arab Emirates, supporting two major energy field development programs. The work, scheduled to begin in August 2025, includes geophysical and geotechnical investigations, environmental and engineering consulting, and the use of uncrewed surface vessels (USVs).
The surveys will cover pipelines, cables, offshore structures, and artificial islands, providing critical data for the client’s Front End Engineering Design (FEED) phase. Fugro will employ its proprietary GroundIQ technology and deliver data through remote management systems, enabling near-real-time insights into ground conditions. This integrated approach aims to optimize design decisions and reduce capital costs for the projects.
Annabelle Vos, Group Director Middle East & India at Fugro, stated: “These awards further strengthen our position as a trusted partner in the region’s energy sector. We are proud to support these landmark field developments with our full suite of site characterisation and consulting services. Our local expertise, combined with Fugro’s global technology leadership, will help deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable outcomes for our client.”
Fugro’s experience in the region includes a pioneering remotely operated subsea inspection using a USV in August 2023, marking a first in the Middle East. More recently, the company was preparing to conduct geotechnical survey work for the North Falls export cable route and wind turbine array in the southern North Sea. These efforts highlight Fugro’s expertise in delivering advanced survey solutions for energy projects worldwide.
The UAE contracts reinforce Fugro’s role in supporting sustainable energy development through innovative technology and localized expertise. By providing comprehensive site characterization and consulting services, the company aims to contribute to efficient and environmentally conscious outcomes for these significant energy initiatives in the UAE.
