Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 13, Ignite Power, a Pan-African distributed infrastructure company, has joined the World Bank’s $270 million Pro Energia+ Program to expand energy access in Mozambique. The initiative collaborates with Bamboo Capital Partners, serving as the program’s facility manager, and FUNAE, the implementing organization, to deliver electricity to remote and underserved communities.

World Bank’s dedication to achieving universal electrification aligns with its broader Mission 300 objective of connecting 300 million people in Africa by 2030.

The Pro Energia+ Program employs results-based financing (RBF) mechanisms to encourage private sector participation in enhancing electricity access. This aligns with the World Bank’s Mission 300, which aims to connect 300 million people across Africa to electricity by 2030. Ignite Power’s role focuses on leveraging its expertise to provide clean and affordable energy solutions in Mozambique.

Arthur Houston, Ignite Mozambique’s managing director, stated: “This partnership is not only a powerful endorsement of our operational model and technological edge, but also a major acceleration of our vision to connect millions more Mozambicans with clean and affordable electricity.” The collaboration builds on Ignite Power’s proven track record of implementing RBF frameworks across Africa.

Since the inception of the BRILHO program in Mozambique, funded by UK Aid Direct and implemented by SNV, Ignite Power has consistently surpassed industry benchmarks. This success has enabled partnerships with major organizations, including the World Bank and the Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA), strengthening its efforts to expand energy access.

The Pro Energia+ Program supports Mozambique’s goal of improving electricity availability through sustainable means. Ignite Power’s involvement is expected to deliver scalable solutions, ensuring reliable and affordable energy for communities with limited access. The initiative underscores the importance of private sector innovation in achieving universal electrification.

In a separate development, in June 2025, the World Bank Group partnered with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to promote the safe and responsible use of nuclear power in developing countries. This collaboration reflects the World Bank’s broader strategy to enhance electrification while prioritizing accessibility, affordability, reliability, and environmental sustainability.

Ignite Power’s participation in the Pro Energia+ Program positions it as a key contributor to Mozambique’s energy transition. By combining innovative financing models with local partnerships, the company aims to create lasting impacts in underserved regions, supporting both community development and environmental goals.
